Shut In
Another Easter
Christians celebrate shut in
No crowded pews or fancy dresses
No big hats and wide fans
No people barely shaking hands
No fake smiles
No B-lines to the other aisle
Another Easter
Christians celebrate shut in
Easier to keep secret that bosom sin
Many of us relieved to hide our pain at home
The crowds, the pretense, all gone
No need to part with hard earned money
When only the preacher man feasts on milk and honey
Another Easter
Christians celebrate shut in
Have we even asked Him what He’s doing?
Have we sat quietly hoping He doesn’t notice?
Have we not learned what God is teaching us?
Have we purposely buried our heads in the sand?
Have we considered that this is part of His plan?
Another Easter
Christians celebrate shut in
Maybe this year the church will ask why
Maybe this time we will repent and not die
Maybe this is what happens when Christ we neglect
Maybe this pause will prompt us to reflect
Maybe this time Christ we won’t reject
Another Easter
Christians celebrate shut in
Perhaps He has shut us in because we have shut Him out
He is no longer the reason we gather
Perhaps He has shut us in because He would call us out
From an assembly of proselytes
To remind us He has shown us, oh man, what is right
Perhaps He has shut us in because when we were out
We were no longer His business about
